Annual Pony Swim, Auction and Firemen's Carnival
At the end of every July marks one of the most famous and exciting events on Chincoteague Island: the wild pony round-up, swim and auction. Come and experience this celebration and firemen fund raiser first hand. Watch saltwater cowboys round up the herd of wild ponies and guide them through the channel from Assateague to Chincoteague. Enjoy the pony auction as a bystander or join in the fun—surprise your precious one with a bid on their very own Assateague pony!
This week long event is filled with many town activities including the Firemen' Carnival. The Comfort Suites kicks off the celebration with fun for the whole family: a boardwalk social with kids' activities, live music, snacks and grilled light fare and a viewing of the movie, Misty of Chincoteague. Relax, hang out and trade stories old and new with Pony Swim veterans who have been participating in this event for many years. Ask about reservations for boat tours right from the hotel. Visit www.cvfc3.com for more information from the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department.
Our Chili-Chowder Cook Off
In September, another fun and tasty Chincoteague event held at the Carnival Grounds is the Chili-Chowder Cook Off! This culinary contest offers a variety of seafood and samplings of the area's best chili and chowders as well as live music and kids' activities. Walk from the Comfort Suites and wander along charming Main Street to view art and craft exhibits along your way.
December Holiday Events in Chincoteague
Step back in time and enjoy Chincoteague's old fashioned Christmas Parade: floats, marching bands, Fire Companies from all around the Eastern Shore, and a special visit from Santa. At Comfort Suites, you will love the front row seats, complimentary hot coffee or hot cocoa and discounts at local restaurants.
The holiday season is one of the best times to visit the Island because it's packed with so many fun things to do. For starters, there's the annual Christmas tree lighting on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, followed by a "Home for the Holidays" home tour, Breakfast with Santa, the Gingerbread Competition, a festive parade, and the grand finale is an Island-style New Year's Day Polar Pony Plunge, making it hard to call it "Off Season".
